Belavadi
Belavadi village has a temple which is a national heritage site. Here the temple is built based on the Hoysala architectural type. It is a small village located 29 km southeast of Chikmagalur town on the Chikmagalur-Javagal highway and 10 km north of Halebidu. It is located at a very convenient distance from the famous temple towns of Belur and Halebidu and a visit to this quiet town is a rewarding experience.

From Belavadi if you travel 3 kms you'll get a small village called Kalasapura. All along the road from Belavadi reaching to Kalasapura, one will encounter numerous arecanut and coconut farms. The speciality of this place is that though it is a dry land, it still looks pretty much green. Mixed cropping is also done here with banana plants intermixed with the arecanut and coconut plants in between. Please read the article on arecanut processing to know in detail the harvesting work.

The reason being the presence and cultivation of large number of arecanut and coconut farms using the ground water. The ground water is pumped with the help of the motor and using a drip irrigation system, each plant is supplied with the required amount of water directly to its root.
It is more or less a dry land which receives scant rain fall. All the farmers in this area depend mainly on the rainfall. Nevertheless, there is a natural rain water harvesting as there are many smaller ponds in between. If the rainfall is good, then the surrounding ponds gets filled. This helps to maintain a good water table to the surrounding area. Using borewell, the farmers get the water for their farms. I believe, the drip irrigation system will help to conserve water which is a very precious resource these days.

There are also a nice coconut farms in between. Below you can see the process of plucking the coconut and cutting it to drink the tender coconut water. Usually, the axe is tied to the long stick. Using this stick, you can pluck the coconut.

There is also a huge cultivation of sun flower plants in this place. It is really a feast to the eyes to see all around blossoming sun flowers following the direction of sun just like human beings following the guru during their spiritual development to reach God.
